Since opening his diamond-cutting business in 1987, Michael Beaudry has built a considerable reputation for his mastery of the art. The buzz began with the launch of the Michael Beaudry Collection, which was based on one singular notion: Put the most finely crafted diamonds in settings that are works of art. “Too often settings are just something to hold the diamond, and the bad ones just detract from the brilliancy of the diamond. That‘s not the way we do it. We give as much attention to the setting as we do to the diamond cutting itself. Both demand great precision and craftsmanship,” says Beaudry. “We throw the whole mold concept out the window and create pieces to fit the diamonds we acquire. We are literally making the jewelry around the uniqueness of each individual stone.” Another signature of Beaudry‘s creations-his homage to techniques like filigree and certain finishes, some of which date back to medieval times. Using only platinum, high-carat gold and employing cutting-edge technology, he creates a timeless, classic piece that is best described as “new vintage.“ Boasting perhaps the largest collection of one-of-a-kind designs of any master jeweler-more than 1,500 of them-Beaudry begins each meeting with a client by sitting down and discussing ideas for the piece of jewelry they have in mind. He then sketches this vision and creates a watercolor of the proposed design. Since the design process can take months, these watercolor sketches become preliminary works of art. Each Beaudry piece is carefully forged and assembled, one component at a time, then signed and numbered. The results are works of art, conceived and finished from every viewing angle, creating heirlooms for generations to come.
