Our first Q&A features Nancy Cohn, a photographer based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Though her work speaks for itself, we were excited to learn a bit more about the individual behind the camera.
How old were you when you began your profession as a photographer?
I was about 19 and naive.
What’s the craziest request you have ever received from a bride?
A bride asked me once to sneak into the groom's room and find the surprise gift that he was going to give her on the wedding day. She knew it was a ring but she wanted to see the size of the stone. Ha!! This was during the rehearsal dinner evening. She wanted me to open the box and take a picture with my phone. I considered and then thought I might be arrested by security so I opted out.
What’s your favorite aspect of a wedding?
My favorite aspect of a wedding is working with the bride in her suite as she prepares for her wedding day. Sweet nuances of interactions that take place for those few hours with family, friends, and vendors. I am always pleasantly surprised at how well she handles herself. There is so much going on just on the outside let alone what she is processing in her own mind about what is to unfold that day. Including warm interchanges of affection from good friends, her parents, her expressions on her face when she is preparing to put on her dress and veil. Some girls are playing the music loudly, drinking bubbly and some are reserved and processing the anticipation more introspectively. I would say, "Never a dull moment.” Each and every bride responds very differently.
What other industry would you be in if not this one?
Music of some sort. I would love to be Annie Lenox.
What famous wedding in history would you have most liked to work on and why?
Bill and Hilary Clinton, because both are super smart and just plain "get it.”
