When designing one of his latest wedding styled shoots, photographer Lucas Rossi rounded up a sharp team of professionals to come together and create a boho bride’s dream. Set at an outdoor venue overlooking the rolling hills of Malibu, California, the event embodied a modern-hippie feel. The ceremony space featured a rustic arch comprised of countless branches stretching over the altar with small sprigs of greenery. “Wood benches offered casual seating in this natural environment along with brightly colored pillows and rugs to create a relaxed setting,” notes the designer. The aisle itself was lined with old crates underneath arrangements of vases, bold candles, and ferns.

To complement the pops of color in the area of the vow exchange, the model bride’s bouquet was made up of scabiosa, peonies, veronica blooms, eucalyptus, lilacs, and poppy pods with their own hand-dyed ribbon. Matching blossoms were displayed in her striking and natural floral crown adorning her braided updo, and she donned a beaded sheath gown with a delicate sweetheart neckline to complete the ethereal look. The model groom sported a crisp white dress shirt and tan slacks, exuding a casual confidence.

The team set up a bohemian reception table showcasing the same bright perennials in shades of lavender and magenta interspersed with greenery. Ivory china topped with lilac-hued linen napkins put a lovely touch of the wooden tablescape, and guests would find their seats on plush pillows on an intricately designed rug. “Communal seating, which is ever so popular today in restaurants, seemed an intimate fit to promote kinship with guests,” explains the designer. “This low wood table created a marriage of the sweetheart table and guest table.”

A chic and comfortable lounge space was conceptualized for rest and relaxation before a fun evening of dancing. “What better place to take in the natural rock formation and the green hills than from the lounge area featuring wooden chairs, a Hudson leather sofa, dual Monaco gold shelves with florals perched atop, and dual Cameroon carved side tables. Unique accents such as the aqua wooden trunk, mixed colored glass vases, an assortment of pillows, and the turquoise rug lit the area with color,” states Lucas.

Vintage additions, such as the striking yellow van, helped to bring the atmosphere into a different time. Attendees of the event would enjoy a variety of games, including corn hole and Jenga, and would not have gone hungry with the scrumptious s’mores bar and trendy drip cake topped with seared marshmallows. Talk about a romantic evening!
