Even though you hate the idea of your flowers being thrown away at the end of the wedding night, it's important to remember that they have been "opening" all week at your florist's studio so they are at "peak bloom" on the day of your wedding. They aren't likely to hold up more than 1 -2 days past the wedding at the most (best) but here a few options in case you are determined to save the beautiful arrangements:
- Make sure your guests take home arrangements - ask the florist to arrange them in containers that can be easily removed from the "special stands (i.e. candelabras, glass pedestals, etc) and transported. Make an announcement so they realize that it is ok. It's also fun to create a way for each table to compete for the centerpiece! It's good to make a formal announcement that they can take them home, but once one person starts to take them...they will all follow....trust me!
- Reuse the arrangements the next day for your brunch. Reuse is always the best way to go, and definitely worth mentioning this week as we approach Earth Day's 40th anniversary. Talk to your florist about ways to reuse floral throughout your big day, it's responsible and budget friendly!
- They can be donated to a local nursing home but, again, remember they might not
be in the best shape after a day or two.
- Keep in mind that if you decide to donate to a nursing home there could be a
delivery fee from your florist to pick up, take back to their studio and
redeliver the following day.
You spend a long time preparing for your wedding and they are there to compliment the beautiful faces of your loved ones on your very special day. So please remember to stop and smell the wedding flowers because their scent will always remind you of this amazing day.
