When it comes to the ceremony décor of your wedding, the pièce de résistance will likely be the altar – after all, that is where you and your future spouse will recite your vows and become married.
When it comes to the ceremony décor of your wedding, the pièce de résistance will likely be the altar – after all, that is where you and your future spouse will recite your vows and become married. For couples exchanging vows in a Jewish ceremony, the service will take place under a chuppah. The chuppah is a wedding canopy with four open sides that symbolizes the new home the couple will create.
Though the traditional chuppah consists of a square of cloth – with many couples using a family heirloom such as their grandfather's tallit – supported by four poles, some Jewish weddings showcase jaw-dropping structures enveloped with florals, greenery, and or exquisite drapery illuminated with ambient lighting. In many cases, crystal chandeliers are suspended overhead or tree-like arrangements are covered with blooms to bring a garden-like feel to the nuptials, whether they take place inside or out.
