Since she recently worked on a festive shoot with a neutral color palette, we asked Callista Osborn of Callista & Company to share her expert tips for setting a chic holiday table. 1. Eat Dessert First
There is no better time than the holidays for an abundance of sweets, so why not welcome guests to the dinner table with a treat at each place setting?

2. Texture is Key
As soon as winter hits, I love to incorporate rich textures. Consider a velvet linen, leather place cards, or hammered flatware.

3. Keep Centerpieces Low
Encourage festive mingling across the table by keeping centerpieces low. The old standby rule is to place your elbow on the table and extend your arm upright, perpendicular to the tabletop. Your centerpiece should reach no higher than the top of your fist.

4. Cheerful Candles
As temperatures drop outside, a candle-filled tablescape creates a sense of warmth and comfort for your guests. Taper candles, in particular, add a traditional touch of elegance to your table.

5. Lush Blooms
Incorporating lots of lush blooms in your centerpieces feels particularly special, especially since trees are losing their leaves and gardens are feeling a bit sparse this season.

6. Mix Up Your Color Palette
Don’t feel tied to conventional red and green. After a month full of festive events, layered neutral tones can feel refreshing and unexpected.
