Before Carly (née Basner) and Nate Causey wed in a beautiful fall celebration in Baltimore, Maryland, they had already started a home together and thus, had compiled household staples. “For our wedding registry, we wanted modern and nice everyday items, but nothing too fancy,” Carly explains. “We were not interested in registering for pieces that wouldn’t be appropriate for our everyday use, such as fine china and crystal – which aren’t our vibe.”
Since the bride typically handles the interior design of their space, Nate was happy to have her take the lead on the registry process. However, the groom did have an important task to fulfill: “I was in charge of anything that had a battery or power cord. I absolutely rocked it, and we ended up with some great stuff,” Nate affirms. Though Carly primarily chose items online, she and Nate did visit a few retailers in person so he could influence their final choices on everyday plates, cups, and cutlery. “There was a small incident at the Crate and Barrel in SoHo over which fork we would choose, but she’d kill me if I mentioned any more details,” he laughs.

“I registered at Bloomingdale’s because it’s a classic!” says Carly. “We were living in NYC at the time, which gave us access to their flagship store. The entire process was fun and easy.” They chose plates, glassware, bedding, and home accent pieces. The couple’s other registry choice is an online outlet that aggregates items across hundreds of retailers.
“I loved the flexibility that Blueprint offers,” Carly explains. “Another great functionality is that the site allows certain gifts to be given by multiple people through cash contributions, which can go to the honeymoon getaway, wine tasting, cooking classes, and more.” Here, they selected an array of pieces from flatware and home organization items to matching luggage and exercise equipment.
The newlyweds are thrilled with the collection of gifts from loved ones and felt their choice of registry retailers really fit their needs. “We got more than we needed and ended up with amazing items,” says Carly, who happily shares they plan to buy furniture for their newly purchased home with some of their gift cards!
“Don’t procrastinate – share the duties of writing thank-you notes as soon as possible.”
“If you live in a small apartment, consider sending gifts to your parents’ house. We had almost no space left!”
“What may be described as a ‘short shopping trip’ will likely turn into hours and hours in the place-mat section. Plan accordingly.”
