As life works in magical ways, a set of similar circumstances brought together neighbors Megan Moorhead and Jason Frecka. While each going through a divorce, they started going on runs together and realized how much they had in common, including each having three kids – two girls and a boy – who were all close in age. After their first date, their lives were forever changed. “I remember feeling this insane connection,” reminisces Jason. Megan adds: “I knew that I found ‘my person,’ my partner for life.”
When Jason realized his life would never be complete without Megan as his wife, he asked her son for permission to propose. After an enthusiastic yes, he then asked her two older daughters. They were all thrilled with the news. While on a family vacation in the Bahamas, Jason arranged for family photos to be taken at the beach. At the end of the shoot, the photographer led the couple to a private spot for the proposal. They all celebrated the happy occasion with a spectacular dinner, a fire-dance performance, and live entertainment on the sand.
Planning their summer nuptials with the help of A Charming Fête, the couple worked together to design an event that would honor their love, as well as the marriage of their families. They made all of the decisions as a team and included their kids in many of the choices as well. “We call our family ‘The Blend’ and we wanted them to feel the significance of our wedding as the official blending of our family,” explains the bride.
Megan and Jason welcomed 100 of their closest friends and family to their lake home, which was embellished with lush blooms by HeatherLily for the alfresco soirée. “It is such a special place for us,” shares the bride. The lakefront setting also achieved their vision perfectly. “We wanted a casual, Hamptons-style wedding,” confirms the groom.
“We call our family ‘The Blend’ and we wanted them to feel the significance of our wedding as the official blending of our family.”
Loved ones found their seats facing the lake, as well as the gorgeous floral arch showcasing vanilla-toned hydrangeas, roses, peonies, and garden roses with delphinium accents. Megan made her way down the blue-and-white striped aisle to meet her groom for the personalized vow exchange. “She was so beautiful, calm, and elegant,” remembers Jason. “I looked into her eyes, and I saw the deep love that she had for me; I saw the excitement to start our life as husband and wife; I saw my everything.”
To achieve the Hamptons-inspired look they desired, a sailcloth tent was arranged in the backyard for the reception. Round wood tables were left bare and rectangular varieties were strewn with either stylish ivory eyelet or blue-and-white striped linens. Centerpieces composed primarily of light blue hydrangeas were kept low to encourage conversation, and the tent was surrounded with potted hydrangeas. “These are now planted in front of our lake house… a beautiful reminder of our special day,” muses the bride.
Following dinner, guests savored slices of a whimsical wedding cake and spent the evening on the striped-design dance floor. “We both share a love of music and finding the right band was very important to both of us,” notes the groom. “So many people came up to us after the wedding and told us that it was the best band that they had ever heard.”
Filled with love and happiness from cherishing their time spent with loved ones, the best part was sharing such special moments with each other along with their children. “They were all so happy and filled with joy,” smiles Megan. “They loved seeing our two families becoming one!” The groom affirms: “We were finally a family.”
