The love story of Talula Holt and Tyler Gibbons started off in a fairly common fashion: introduction by a mutual friend. “I thought she was stunning the moment I put my eyes on her,” admits Tyler. “She thought I was funny, which was a plus for me!” They were quickly enamored and their romance began.
Tyler began reflecting on their relationship and realized how grateful he was for Talula, how everything they did together was memorably fun, how they had great communication, and that they were always laughing together. After meeting with her only living relative, her aunt, over a beautiful lunch, Tyler began thinking of ways to create a romantic proposal for his beloved. He began paying close attention to Talula’s taste in jewelry, rings in particular, and to throw her off any hint that he may be ring shopping, he waited six months to finally make the big purchase. Over an intimate dinner, where he got on bended knee, Talula happily agreed yes.
The betrothed desired a California celebration with the feel of an Italian villa, so when their event planners – Rikki and Mallory Ladenheim of Rikki & Mal – took them to scout a venue in Santa Susana that offered privacy, gorgeous panoramic views of the mountains, European architecture, and a stunning sprawling outdoor space for the nuptials, they were thrilled.
Tyler and the bride’s aunt took on the managing roles, and together, decided on all the final design details that Rikki and Mallory presented. First settling on a colorful palette of bright, happy tones, they worked with a stationer to create a custom stationery suite to introduce guests to the whimsical theme of the special day.
“Soak up all of the love on that day from everyone! It’s an incredible feeling, so be present and enjoy every bit!”
For the ceremony, collections of lush arrangements and foliage lined the grassy aisle that had also been heavily sprinkled with blossoms in vibrant colors. A grand arbor, bedecked with blooms in shades of fuchsia and scarlet, made a statement that commanded attention – the ideal spot for the fun-loving couple to exchange their handwritten vows. Bridesmaids dressed in black gowns of their choosing looked chic and stylish as they started the procession to the lovely tunes of a string quartet. One hundred loved ones settled into wooden chairs with plush ivory cushions and listened intently to the sweet service.
With the expert help of a bridal-fashion stylist, Talula chose a fit-and-flare gown with a sweetheart neckline and off-the-shoulder sleeves; the lace design also featured floral appliqués and illusion side cutouts, giving the ensemble a sexy, modern feel. Tyler opted for a smart tailored black tuxedo with matching bow tie. Together, they looked regal, perfectly in sync as the new Mr. and Mrs., guiding revelers to another space of the vast estate to enjoy cocktails followed by a sit-down dinner.
Guests found their tables by way of cheery Spanish tiles that had been personalized with each name and table number. Couches, ottomans, and coffee tables were set out so that family and friends could seamlessly mingle and enjoy time with one another before taking their seats at tables which had been dramatically and beautifully adorned with brightly hued mixed florals, bunches of daisies, collections of sunny tulips, assemblages of lemons, candlelight atop bullion holders, and so much more detail. It was dazzling.
A dance floor that mimicked the style of the Spanish tile “place cards” was arranged in a vivid pattern, and though the live band was “10/10” according to the groom, partygoers were also treated to a lively performance from synchronized swimmers. “They were amazing!” he confirms of the surprise entertainment.
Talula urges couples to hire a videographer for the special occasion. Though photos capture so many moments of the big day, there’s nothing like hearing the voices of loved ones to be appreciated for generations to come. The bride’s second bit of advice: “Soak up all of the love on that day from everyone! It’s an incredible feeling, so be present and enjoy every bit.”
