The love story of Priyanka Jagannath and Tyler Trump began during their third year of medical school when they were paired together on a pediatric rotation. “During our daily lunches together, we realized how much we had in common, bonding over similar interests and hobbies,” describes Priyanka. “We soon made plans to hang out outside of work and since then we have been inseparable.”
The proposal was as equally natural as their courtship. After a weeklong trip to North Carolina where they spent time hiking the mountains, golfing, and enjoying the eclectic food scene of the locale, Tyler surprised Priyanka with a romantic proposal. “The day after we returned from our trip, Tyler and I relaxed at home and enjoyed our last day off,” reveals Priyanka. “That evening, Tyler cooked one of our favorite meals and proposed to me at home.”
Though the couple began wedding planning during their residency, Priyanka was blessed to have plenty of support from her parents. “Even my father was very hands on, helping with many of the big decisions, including my dress selection,” she smiles. “I never realized the level of detail that goes into every step of wedding planning. There were so many options for everything – not only food choice, but also for little things like calligraphy on the invitation and flatware for the table settings.”
With the professional guidance of esteemed event planner Belle Manjong of The Boutique by B.Belle Events, the couple planned for a gorgeous celebration with 250 loved ones in attendance. They opted to host the affair in Morgantown, West Virginia, because it was where they currently lived, plus both of their families reside in the state. Opting for a hotel venue, for the ease of loved ones, the choice allowed guests to stay all weekend and not have to worry about commuting around town during the eventful morning-to-night special occasion.
The bride and groom opted for two ceremonies to honor their respective religions. A Hindu ceremony started off the day with a morning service preceding a traditional Indian lunch, and then in the early evening, the Christian ceremony was followed by a traditional Western cocktail hour and reception.
For the Hindu portion of the day, Priyanka desired a bright and colorful palette featuring a lot of pink and red tones, where she elected to wear a rich red, jewel-toned lehenga that complemented the décor concept beautifully. In contrast, the Western ceremony showcased a clean and modern design, including mostly white-colored florals with accents of green and black.
Priyanka looked like royalty as she made her way down the aisle donning an embroidered bridal gown with an illusion deep V-neck and a billowing cape – perfectly styled by Belle Manjong of BBelle Style. She held a feminine bouquet of cream-hued tulips. Following the sentimental “I dos,” where the couple exchanged handwritten vows, they walked up the aisle to “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay before joining guests to imbibe signature cocktails.
“Our wedding turned out even better than we dreamed.”
For the reception, Priyanka envisioned a modern, sleek style that was abundant with impressive floral creations. “Our sweetheart table was covered in cream flowers; it was my favorite design aspect of the reception!” says the bride. Long dinner tables were decorated with tall, lush centerpieces, in addition to collections of candles, providing the space with a romantic glow.
The ambience was perfect for a night full of revelry and dancing, thanks to the DJ who seamlessly blended classic Indian songs with modern Western hits. “We really enjoyed dancing at our reception with all of our guests. We had people of all ages travel from all over the world for our wedding,” illustrates the new Mrs. The groom also emphasizes that it was an incredible feeling seeing loved ones from five to 85 together on the dance floor: “The guests were a big part of the story, and we wanted them to know they were appreciated.”
As guests danced off the full meal of Indian and Western cuisine, the newlyweds offered slices of their multi-tiered wedding cake iced in rich fondant featuring handmade edible flowers and a different flavor combination in each layer. “The cake was truly beautiful and was a showstopper,” affirms Priyanka. In addition to the confection, the couple’s favorite Krispy Kreme doughnuts were given to guests as favors to later enjoy in their hotel rooms. The sweet treats held special significance to the couple. “We would go to Krispy Kreme together every weekend when we were dating,” reveals the bride.
The newlyweds enjoyed every minute of their big day. Priyanka confirms, “I would not do anything differently! Our wedding turned out even better than we dreamed.”
