Directly after getting off the plane from Coachella, music agent Daisy Hoffman met her friend to celebrate his birthday at a Hot Chip show in Brooklyn. “Little did I know, his best friend from college was going to be my future husband!” smiles Daisy of the night she met Carl. “We spent the entire night talking and he actually helped me move to my new apartment the following day.”
When the time was right, Carl planned a proposal at Daisy’s home in Montauk – keeping her family, who would be in attendance, in the know; however, Daisy had her suspicions. “A week before, he was not able to keep it a surprise any longer, so one morning, he grabbed a random ring off my desk, I said yes, and then we had to keep it a secret for another week!” shares the bride.
Since Daisy spent summers on Long Island and had always thought Oheka Castle was beautiful, the pair selected the stunning venue as the site for their fall wedding. “We also loved the fact that we could have the castle all to ourselves with the wedding party and close family for the weekend, so everyone could be together,” she adds.
Despite rain falling during the early morning hours of the wedding day, the clouds parted in time for the couple to have their dream outdoor ceremony on the picturesque grounds of the property. Bridesmaids processed in emerald green gowns, groomsmen wore tuxedos and personalized shoes embroidered with their initials and a motif of Oheka Castle, and the pair’s dog Pip served as a handsome ring bearer. At last, the bride walked down the aisle to “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs in a gorgeous high-neck gown.
“Oheka Castle is such a beautiful setting in and of itself – we didn’t want to go too over the top but just complement the natural beauty.”
As she met her groom between the autumnal ceremony florals, the couple prepared for the heartfelt ceremony, which was officiated by the bride’s step-father. “He came out of retirement to do one last ceremony, and we couldn’t have been more grateful!” says the bride. After they were pronounced husband and wife, Daisy and Carl recessed to the string quartet’s rendition of “The Rock Show” by Blink-182 in honor of the lyrics “I fell in love with the girl at the rock show,” which couldn’t have been more true for the pair.
At cocktail hour, guests savored signature cocktails – a holiday-inspired Moscow Mule and an espresso martini – as well as bites from seven different food stations ranging from a raw bar to pierogies in honor of Carl’s Polish heritage and Italian fare to ramen, one of the couple’s favorite foods. Attendees found their seating assignments on a large display decorated with florals, greenery, and branches that echoed the ceremony design.
Friends and family then found their seats in the elegant reception space, which showcased classic décor that honored the season and the venue. “Because it was November, I wanted a very natural and autumnal feel with pampas grass and lots of candles,” explains the bride of her vision. “Oheka Castle is such a beautiful setting in and of itself – we didn’t want to go too over the top but just complement the natural beauty.”
Gold chairs with crisp white cushions surrounded tables cloaked in white linens and adorned with high and low centerpieces featuring moody, fall-inspired arrangements including anemones and pampas grass, as well as plenty of candlelight. “Given our deep connection to music, we decided to go with music venues as table names,” shares Daisy of the detail. “Every table was a venue that we’d either experienced together or in some way had an impact on our lives and our memories with friends.”
Following the sit-down dinner service, guests enjoyed slices of the pair’s five-tier wedding cake decorated with ivory buttercream, 24k gold edges, and fresh florals. However, “the showstopper was really the beautiful dessert room that Oheka Castle curated with all sorts of different dessert stations,” notes the bride of the flambé and gelato stations, as well as the vast selection of cheesecakes, pastries, and pies, that delighted loved ones before a night filled with dancing and revelry in celebration of the new Mr. and Mrs.
