The rich hues of berries inspired the color scheme of Angela Reino and Wynston Champion’s wedding – from save-the-date cards and bridesmaid gowns, to the bridal bouquet and floral décor. Ties featuring a vivid grape tone provided a striking contrast against the azure suits of the groom and his attendants. Similarly, neutral posies of roses and foliage were selected to subtly complement the dresses worn by bridesmaids.
Following the couple's traditional Catholic ceremony, friends and family gathered at a chic hotel for the reception. One of the reasons the bride and groom selected the venue was that it catered to their foodie inclinations. Being from an Italian family, Angela wanted a touch of her culture reflected in the cuisine served at the celebration. So, a pasta bar was offered during the cocktail hour. “[It] was a big hit with my guests,” she says. For dessert, a naked lemon cake – accented with blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and peach peonies – awaited attendees.
Adding a personal element, the bride and her future mother-in-law constructed the wooden box where the escort cards, featuring the names of loved ones written in elegant script, were displayed. “It was a lot of fun,” enthuses Angela of the shared project. To incorporate a layer of texture, the container was filled with fragrant coffee beans.
The sophisticated décor was fitting to the modern space. Bursts of color were provided by a medley of fuchsia, ruby, and ivory blooms and verdure in pewter and golden mercury-glass vases. “The overall feel with the florals was to be very organic, almost like you just picked the flowers yourself from a beautiful garden,” explains Angela. Soft lighting emanated from pillar candles in silver hurricanes and votives in gilt vessels.
Guests were treated to a special surprise during the father-daughter dance. “My dad and I took dance lessons to learn how to waltz and then broke out into a choreographed dance to the instrumentals from ‘Thriller’ [by Michael Jackson] and ‘#Selfie’ [by the Chainsmokers],” shares the bride of the memorable moment.
The occasion turned out just as the couple envisioned. While in the planning process, Angela received a bit of advice that she found helpful and vowed “to stay true to what Wynston and I wanted for our big day.” And so, the joyous celebration was a reflection of the charming couple and their love for one another.
