While celebrating her best friend’s birthday at an indie music festival in Athens, Georgia, Alexandra Lampp visited a brewery and happened to meet Michael Berglund. After conversing, she invited him to celebrate with the rest of her group. By the end of the night, Michael asked her for a first date and the relationship grew. One day after dinner at their favorite restaurant, the two took a walk and stopped at the place where they first met. It was at this moment that Michael popped the question to his sweetheart.
The duo chose to exchange vows on St. Simons Island, Georgia, and they decided to host a beach wedding ceremony featuring personalized vows. “Michael and I wrote our own vows, which was something that we wanted to do from the very beginning,” the bride says. As a comic book fan, Michael incorporated phrases such as “through the darkest and blackest night” and “an aloof joker” in his vows. Alex’s vows referenced her favorite childhood poem, "I’ll Be You and You Be Me" as she recited, “Love is you. Love is us. Love is this day, this time, this place. Promising to be yours until my last breath. This is love.”
“The best advice we received is to always remember that the day was ultimately about us – us making a commitment in front of those we loved most.”
The buffet-style wedding reception took place at a nearby beach resort. With a simple palette of gold, cream, white, and sand hues, the florals and linens enhanced the wedding venue space. A special moment during the reception was when the bride’s grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran, teared up as he recited a blessing before the meal. This was very important for the bride as her grandfather is the patriarch of the family.
Guests celebrated and enjoyed a photo booth as all types of music was played throughout the night. “Our music choices were uniquely us, and the DJ even commented on the variety of music played. We requested house dance music, '80s classics, indie pop, and, of course, top 40,” Alex confides. “We met at a music festival and have attended countless together, so music is very important to us.”
Wedding planning can be overwhelming for any couple, but Alex shares that it is important to remember who this special day is really about and to enjoy every moment. “The best advice we received is to always remember that the day was ultimately about us – us making a commitment in front of those we loved most.”
