“Our time dancing together and shared love for K-Pop fostered our relationship in 2018, and we have been inseparable ever since,” shares Michelle Liu of her husband Reggie Huang, who she first met while dancing for UCLA’s Korean-Pop dance team, the Koreos. When the time was right, Reggie proposed at their home and the couple began planning their nuptials. Even before choosing a theme, they knew they had to somehow incorporate their love for K-Pop.

“We wanted to celebrate our love story in a local music-video production-level venue with ample light, clean lines, and dance-worthy elevation,” shares the bride of their vision, which they shared with their wedding planner Helen. They selected a modern loft venue that provided the perfect canvas for their airy, whimsical modern wonderland that showcased the bride’s affinity for pastel colors and lush florals, as well as fun, interactive details honoring their love of K-Pop.

The clean, white ceremony space featured an asymmetrical arch framed by floating floral sprays composed of dainty blooms, dyed baby’s breath and plumosa, as well as arrangements of pink pampas at the base of the arch and along the entire back row of ceremony chairs to create drama and texture. Once guests were seated atop clear-back chairs beneath the venue’s statement chandelier, Michelle made her way down the concrete aisle in a chic off-the-shoulder ball gown.

The bride clutched a pastel bouquet of butterfly ranunculus, dahlias, cosmos, and sweet pea blossoms in pale pink, lavender, light blue, butter yellow, and papaya orange as she met her groom for the nuptials in front of their friends and family. After they exchanged vows and rings, Michelle and Reggie incorporated a “love shot” to the EXO song of the same name. “It was a fun nod to our love for dance as it brought energetic vibes in anticipation of the pronouncement as husband and wife,” remembers Michelle.

Following the “I dos,” loved ones enjoyed a lively cocktail hour complete with delicious fare and delicate ikebana flower arrangements sprinkled throughout the all-white lounge to provide a pop of color. Demitasses of tomato bisque with breadstick dippers and panko-crusted chicken sliders with secret sauce and pickles were only a couple of the tasty passed hors d’oeuvres available, and guests delighted in sampling the pair’s his-and-hers signature drinks: a peach bourbon smash and a yuzu-and-lychee spritzer.

“[The] stunning, luxurious floral designs brought our whimsical, modern, garden wonderland vision to life.”

Attendees signed pastel hearts and dropped them into an acrylic frame decorated with illustrations of the couple for a special keepsake and also snapped Polaroid photos for the interactive guest book. When it was time, they made their way to a shimmering display and found their names on pink and lavender envelopes that revealed their table assignments, as well as custom photo cards of the couple, once again inspired by their love of K-Pop.

When friends and family entered the light-filled, colorful reception space, they entered Michelle and Reggie’s wedding dream come true. “[The] stunning, luxurious floral designs brought our whimsical, modern, garden wonderland vision to life,” the bride confirms.

Circular tables were decorated with pastel centerpieces comprised of similar florals to that in the bride’s bouquet. In lieu of formal wedding favors, pink acrylic keychains etched with each guest’s name doubled as a place card and take-home gift.  Acrylic and stoneware place settings, colorful glassware, gold-accented flatware, and menus embellished with the couple’s K-Pop representative animals completed the look.

To make their grand entrance as Mr. and Mrs., Reggie and Michelle descended a white staircase in time to a custom-edited song, leading to a showstopping choreographed dance number on the seamless white dance floor that had guests cheering like fans at a K-Pop concert. The rest of the night was spent celebrating, dining on the custom menu complete with bite-sized desserts highlighting Asian-inspired flavors such as matcha, oolong tea, and lychee, and of course, dancing.

At the end of the night, the newlyweds ran through a tunnel of confetti-colored K-Pop light sticks formed by their friends and family, “ending the night in a spectacular, unforgettable way,” remembers Michelle of the most magical day she and her husband will never forget.
