While in a hot air balloon 7,000 feet in the air, Charles Hsu asked his college sweetheart Jenny Wang to marry him. Though they now live in Brooklyn, New York, they decided to get married in Long Beach, California, closer to where they met at Pepperdine University. A historic venue built in 1924 made for the right venue for the pair. “I wanted a unique venue that is artsy and cute,” Jenny explains. “I was pretty much looking for a venue that is opposite of rustic-feeling.”

Instead, she desired a timeless style with classic décor: white flowers and greenery. Though the bride initially expressed wanting a small arch for the ceremony, her vendor team surprised her with a larger installation alongside cascading florals for a fully immersive look. The bride’s gown and smile were both sparkling as she walked down the candle-lined aisle. “It was a really heartfelt moment and a culmination of everything that I loved about her just rushed to me at once,” Charles muses of the magical moment when he saw his beloved at the ceremony. 

Following the heartfelt vow exchange, the newlyweds enjoyed an intimate dinner with their loved ones. Towering centerpieces were displayed at the three long tables, and the sweetheart table was adorned with a lush arrangement of orchids and additional blooms for a truly ethereal setting. Jenny changed into a lovely off-the-shoulder A-line gown in a crimson hue as she and her new husband celebrated with their closest family and friends.

For those planning their own big day, Jenny advises couples to avoid stress. “It’s hard not to be stressed,” she admits. “[But] imperfection is what makes your wedding unique.”
