Years before they were even engaged, Erica Basso and Mathew Shum knew they wanted to get married in Cabo. “Being such a monumental time in our relationship – celebrating a decade of love – we wanted our guests to have a full-body experience during our wedding weekend,” Erica describes of their vision.

Since Cabo is just a short flight from Los Angeles, where most of their guests would be traveling from, they couldn’t wait to host a dream destination wedding in “the one place that the moment I touch down, I am instantly more calm,” confirms the bride.

To kick off the weekend, guests enjoyed sunrise beach yoga with the bride and groom the day of the welcome party. “This was a unique way to connect with our guests,” confirms Erica. “We wanted everyone to have a moment of calm for themselves and really arrive on the right foot.”

The next day, friends and family found their seats facing the sea for the couple’s alfresco ceremony decorated with neutral-toned florals, dried palm fronds, and soft pampas grass. The pair wrote their own vows, which included conscious relationship vows that shared what they need to work on as individuals and a couple, as well as the traditional marital vows.

“Our intention was to honor the growth we have done as individuals and as a couple in the past decade of our relationship. We aren’t perfect and know the growth isn’t done, so we wanted to own these shadow parts of us,” shares Erica of their honest and loving vow exchange. “It’s important for us to prioritize our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health in our relationship.”

“There was truly not a better moment than dancing under the disco balls with all our favorite people.”

Following the “I dos,” loved ones gathered for the rooftop reception overlooking the ocean. “It was so magical!” remembers Erica. Centerpieces showcased lively arrangements of both fresh and dried florals in blush and cream.

“Our décor featured earthy, natural colors,” describes the bride. “I also fell in love with the idea of having a cluster of disco balls above the dance floor… It was the most magical, energizing full moon that night as well, and there was truly not a better moment than dancing under the disco balls with all our favorite people.”

From welcome sunrise yoga to an after-party that lasted until 4AM, the couple was thrilled that their wedding weekend created a time for their guests to not only celebrate their love but also allow for everyone to have a life-changing experience.

“Being a holistic psychotherapist, I wanted our guests to leave feeling mind, body, and spirit alignment,” muses Erica. “Our guests were able to engage in mind-body practices, connect in an intimate setting, eat real, whole food, witness our conscious relationship vows, and top it all off with a little play and disco!”
